First educational visit hosted at new training and innovation centre

We have welcomed a group of students to our new training and innovation centre to open their eyes to careers available to them in telecoms.

Eight students from Hull’s Ron Dearing UTC visited our new facility in the city, which opened last month.

The centre is being used to train our engineers in delivering both fibre and fixed wireless broadband and gave the engineering students a taste of some of the skills needed to work in telecommunications.

The visit was the first time the centre has been opened up to the education sector and marks the start of activity by us to engage further with schools to nurture the future pipeline of talent.

The session was hosted by Wendy Hiley, HR and Talent Acquisition Partner and said: “Connected is a rapidly growing organisation, and we are always looking for new talent to join our team.

“Events like this allow us to build important relationships with potential future employees, as well as providing them with invaluable experience.

“Because Connected has developed a unique, market-leading hybrid network, we are able to showcase a broad range of skills and have a breadth of opportunities available to future employees.

“These sessions will help students gain an early understanding of what careers are available to them in the telecoms industry generally, and at Connected specifically.”

Ron Dearing UTC is an employer-led school, focused on providing students with the skills and experiences they need to launch successful careers.

Glenn Jenson, Senior Assistant Principal – Employer Engagement at Ron Dearing UTC, said: “Industry insight events like this are really important to give our students the opportunity to get real life experience of current and future jobs.

“With growth means there will be an increasing number of telecoms careers available in the region, so first-hand experience like this at the new training and innovation centre is priceless.”
